At the 2026 Family Conference in Asheville Grangers worked as one big team to complete the many steps of beginning to assemble quilt blocks.

Following Erica Arndt's tutorial on YouTube and her printed directions, Grangers were divided into four groups, cutting different pieces of the finished pattern, Ohio Star. Once cut, members filed to many sewing machines set up in the meeting room to begin piecing them together. All ages took part in learning and teaching this skill.

Several blocks were completed on site that morning, and the rest went home with Melanie Hudson, Dianne Hudson and Sharon Ritchie of St. Johns Grange in Cabarrus County. There, they pieced the remaining fragments into over thirty blocks! Thank you so much for your hard work!

NOW.... WHO wants to work on finishing these pieces into a quilt over the summer to present at State Convention this September in Durham, North Carolina? Seriously.... Also, the State Grange office has plenty of quilting supplies if YOUR local Grange wants to tackle making more quilts. The state office will gladly send you the mats, measuring supplies and fabric.
