Thomas Family Farms Celebrates Win

The NC Grange is proud to be the lead sponsor of the Conservation Farm Family of the Year. The 2025 recipient is the Thomas family of Timberlake, NC in Person County. A special lunch and awards ceremony was held on the farm Friday, June 5, 2026.

NC Grange President David Allen and NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Gail Hughes were in attendance to provide comments and present the Thomas family with their award. Other speakers included Zane Hedgecock, Chief of Staff, NC Department of Agriculture and Cal Berryhill, Jr, Vice Chair of the Person County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The family conducted a panel discussion about their operations led by daughter, Ashley. They discussed their roles, responsibilities and teamwork. They also heavily praised all the help they have to make their operations run smoothly throughout the year.

Their diverse operation includes; field crops, hog farming and forestry. They practice no-till planting, cover crops and crop rotation.
